Forum hosted by Brazil partner school students
Students at OC partner school South American Theological Seminary (SATS) in Londrina, Brazil, recently organized a “Forum on Holistic Mission,” drawing over 100 people from all four corners of Latin America. The forum gathered people to debate, dialogue, listen and learn from one another about different ways to be the faithful Church in today’s world.
The seminary says, “The forum’s main purpose was to gather these people to share practices and insights into the doing of Christian ministry.” Through the theme “Local Church: Agent of Transformation,” participants were able to learn about working with street children and prostitutes, teaching adult literacy classes through Bible study, music ministries and ecumenical dialogues.
The forum was named for the famous Latin American theologian Orlando Enrique Costas who died of cancer in 1987. Costas is considered one of the “fathers” of Latin American Protestant theology. His prophetic voice inspired the Church to face its mission in the world head-on, challenging corrupt governments, poverty and violence with the good news of Jesus Christ.
