Radiant Life ministry hopes to bring 1,000 Indian children, teens and youth “from darkness to light”

Just before completing a degree in Commerce, Dominic Hancock realized his desire to serve the Lord and pursued theological studies at the South Asia Institute of Advanced Christian Studies (SAIACS) in India. During his studies, he joined an NGO working with children from East Bangalore quarries and says God awakened his heart and passion for children and youth in India.

Desiring to reach children, especially those in the unreached places of India, Dominic started two education centers, equipping children with teaching aids and vocational skills. Connecting with the two communities and building trust has enabled Dominic and his team to plant three churches in the area. Although people still live with issues like caste systems, superstition and black magic, he says education is playing a key role in opening up people’s minds, breaking barriers of ignorance and oppression and impacting the future of India with the Gospel.

Dominic’s team also started a home for young teenage boys, school dropouts who were “hopeless in life.” Some boys are now back in school, and others receive vocational training. With faithful caretakers and volunteers, the home reaches the boys with the love of Jesus and disciples them with biblical values. Today, Dominic says, “16 boys find shelter, food, a loving family atmosphere, a bright future, and most importantly, a transformed life; hence our motto, ‘from darkness to light.’”

The education centers and boys’ home are part of the Radiant Life ministry, a movement and team of friends using their gifts and talents for the glory of God. Their goal is to reach 1,000 children, teens and youth by 2012 through their two Shema education centers, Radiant Life Women’s Center and Radiant Life Church and Outreach. Their purpose is to “liberate people from darkness to the radiant life and path of Jesus Christ, enabling them to know and acknowledge the truth, for the truth will set them free.”

Dominic says his training at SAIACS has been an experience of a lifetime. “Excellence was the first word to catch me. You don’t have to learn it; you…feel it everywhere,” he says. “God began to shape my life at SAIACS,...and it has been a blessing. It has sharpened my mind and inspired me to make an impact in my preaching, teaching and leadership in the ministry. It continues to help me be equipped for the huge task that is ahead in my ministry and the mission to which God has called me.”
