Unique conference draws together Palestinian Christians and international Church

Bethlehem Bible College (BBC) recently hosted a five-day conference in the West Bank called “Christ at the Checkpoint: Theology in the Service of Peace and Justice.” Over 300 local and international Christian scholars and church leaders attended the event to discuss pertinent issues facing both the Palestinian Christians of the Holy Land and the role of the international Christian community as advocates for a Christian movement towards peace.
BBC says the conference, the first of its kind in Bethlehem, aims to equip the global church to understand Scripture as it relates to the Palestinian context and to discuss the theological importance of peace, justice and reconciliation in an evangelical context while focusing on the realities “on the ground.”
OC’s Special Ambassador Dr. Manfred Kohl was a featured guest speaker and spoke on “The Holocaust and the Evangelical Church.” Additional topics are below. The next international Christ at the Checkpoint conference will be held in Bethlehem in March 2012.
Keynote and workshop topics included:
- “Engaging American Christians in the Cause of Holy Land Peace”
- “Christian Responses to Muslims and Islam”
- “Nonviolent Action, Justice and Empowerment in Christianity”
- “How to Engage with the Palestinian Church”
“Palestinian Christians in Israel: Trends and Challenges”
- “From Land of Strife to Land of Reconciliation”
- “Ethical Responsibility of the Evangelical American Church Towards Palestinian Christians”
