God is transforming cities,
drawing people to Himself and
answering the prayer He taught us to
pray: "...Your kingdom come, your will be
done, on earth as it is in heaven" (Matthew 6:10).
Moreover, He is doing all of this through
the transformation of individuals.
Eduardo César Jara grew up in a poor Argentine
neighborhood outside of Buenos Aires. The shiny tin roofs
engulf the city like waves. The rebar protrudes like the
spout of a whale. The sound of stray dogs skirmishing over
scraps on the street and the smell of a neighbor's bakery
evokea strong sense of nostalgia to Eduardo. Along with these
quaint memories, he quickly recalls the fear that once
overwhelmed his senses. This fear was the result of the dangerous
role that drugs and violence played in his neighborhood.
Eventually Eduardo became a drug dealer himself. His neighbors
were frightened of him. Eduardo now created fear in others, the
same fear that once overwhelmed him.
Thirty-six years later, something dramatically shifted. Eduardo
chose to put his faith in Jesus Christ. He spent years rooting his
faith in the Word and his community after which he began to
pursue training so he could help others overcome similar
challenges. With the preparation he received, he became a
leader of an Overseas Council sponsored Community
Outreach Project in his hometown. There they teach art, music,
English and computer classes. This year, he worked with
Overseas Council as a leader for another Community Outreach
Project: empowering FIET to train pastors on issues relating to
addiction, a major problem in the Argentine society. Eduardo's
training empowered him to respond to the needs of his community.
Eduardo has been transformed and is purposed
towards transformation.
The Problem:
Over 400 children die
every day in the
Democratic Republic
of the Congo (DRC).
Officials suggest over 1.4
million people are HIV
positive. Over 1 million
children have lost one or
both
parents to AIDS.
Pastor Tonga's Response:
Pastor Deolo Tonga runs an
HIV/AIDS program in Western
DRC. The program emphasizes
AIDS screening,
treatment and
counseling. Deolo is also responsible for a relief
organization. His team provides food, clothes and
medical help to
displaced people.
How?
Deolo is a Congolese man who received a scholarship from
Overseas
Council for his education and training. One scholarship.
One dedicated man.
Sharing the Gospel through words and deeds
in his country.
The Power of One.
Ask family and friends to
train a
leader on your behalf this May!
The Problem:
Believers throughout
the Middle East have
dreams, visions or hear
the name of
Jesus through
friends. They
want to serve.
Many don't have
access to biblical
training for
ministry preparation.
Rania's Response:
While Rania was serving in youth
meetings,
she was presented with many
problems and
difficult questions. She didn't
know how to answer
them, so she joined a
local training center in order to
understand
her faith and be able to teach in her children's
ministry more
effectively. She is now declaring truth to
children throughout her church and is
seeing an impact.
