Two sequential Chinese-speaking Institutes held in Hong Kong and Taiwan
Hosted by OC partner China Graduate School of Theology (CGSTHK), Hong Kong, OC’s fourth 2009 Institute for Excellence in Christian Leadership Development took place May 11-12, 2009. Seventeen school presidents and board members from nine schools in Hong Kong attended the Institute on governance.
OC partner China Evangelical Seminary (CES), Taiwan, hosted OC’s fifth 2009 Institute for Excellence May 14-15, 2009. Twenty-three school presidents and board members from seven schools in Taiwan attended the Institute, also on governance.
Jason Ferenczi, OC Vice President for International Partnerships, shared that “in 10 years of observing theological schools around the world, the issue at the heart of success or failure as an institution is almost always the presence of sound board governance.” The sessions were designed to draw on the rich experience in the room, with ample opportunity for discussion of common issues and challenges facing boards. “It was encouraging to see presidents and board members engaging in crucial issues, such as the future of theological education, the needs of the Church in Hong Kong and China and the practical work of a board. There was an immense amount of experience in higher education business, and the non-profit sector present in the room,” according to Ferenczi. By investing in the boards of key theological schools, OC is building their capacity to respond to the leadership needs of the global Church.
