34 senior leaders from 13 schools in 10 countries across West Africa participated in the Institute for Excellence in Christian Leadership Development from June 11-15, 2007, hosted by West Africa Baptist Advanced School of Theology (WABAST) in Lomé, Togo. School leaders came from seminaries in Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.

This week-long consultation serves as a means to invest in presidents, deans, and other senior administrators at partner and non-partner schools. It is designed to build capacity at evangelical multi-denominational seminaries and Bible colleges by strengthening leadership skills and organizational expertise. The Institute is a platform to build relational networks within each region and to find collaborative solutions to pressing regional issues facing the church.

This year’s theme was Excellence in Finances – building financial self-sufficiency and sustainability. This is an essential issue to protect the future of all programs and one that requires long-term solutions. Topics of biblical stewardship, ethical practices, implementing adequate financial structures, and development of local support were presented. Seminary leaders were asked to reflect on how fund-raising and public relations fits into their theology, and they were given tools to build effective Communications and Fund Raising Departments at their own institutions. Global and local experts led sessions and were available for one-on-one consultations.
