Cuban partnership allows the first ever Master’s degree in Biblical Studies
For the first time in the history of the Cuban Evangelical Church, Cuban seminary leaders will have the chance to earn a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies. Until now, OC Latin America Regional Director Josué Fernández says, “There was not such a possibility for Cubans inside Cuba, and many of the seminaries depended on professors coming from outside the country or missionaries for training in Biblical Studies. Through this program, OC will be offering to the Cuban Evangelical Church the great possibility of training seminary professors in Biblical Studies at a Master’s level inside Cuba.”
The MA program will be offered on the campus of OC partner New Pines Seminary (NPS), Cuba (Seminario Los Pinos Nuevos). After several years of planning and negotiating, the leadership of three Cuban seminaries (The Palms Seminary (Seminario Las Palmas), Baptist Seminary of the East (Seminario Bautista de Oriente) and NPS) have designed a curriculum for the program, with the assistance of OC partner Evangelical Seminary for Pastoral Education (ESEPA), Costa Rica. “We plan for this program to be offered by highly qualified professors from many different seminaries inside and outside of Cuba,” says Dr. Floyd Elmore, ESEPA Academic Dean. “At present, OC has taken up the mantel of financing the MA program – to God be the glory!” NPS will coordinate the program details inside Cuba, and Dr. Elmore will coordinate details outside of Cuba.
