EMC graduates touched lives in very different ways

Maria and Denise recently earned their Diplomas in Mission from Evangelical Missions Center (EMC), Brazil. Their

practical ministry placement took them to Uruguay to work with Youth for Christ for a month and a half. Both ladies feel called to serve children at risk, and their main project sought to educate society, churches, families and children on how to prevent abuse.

During their placement, the ladies served several churches, taught children and were involved in a project called “Vaccination against Abuse.” The project was presented to leaders at the Senate and Legislative Palace in order to launch a parliamentary defense on child and teenage rights. Street programs were also used to spread awareness and attract attention to the project. The ladies’ ministry leader noted their joyful attitudes, flexibility, hard work and creativity. They developed good relationships with Uruguayans and were very sensitive to their needs.

Both are now working with the Rebusca Christian social ministry in Viçosa, Brazil.

Husband and wife André and Marcelle studied at EMC for their Diplomas in Mission because they felt called to serve the tribal peoples in Brazil. André is a medical doctor,

and his wife has a Marketing diploma. They have an infant son, Samuel.

Recently, the couple medically served a tribe in the upper Rio Negro region which had been completely closed to missionaries. The tribal people were very satisfied and invited the family to come back to live with them, which they plan to do after completing more coursework. André and Marcelle praise God for opening the door to an area previously closed to the gospel and for the relationships they built with the local people.

From the poor northeast region of Brazil, Márcia is a teacher who earned her Diploma

in Mission at EMC. In partnership with the East Timor government, the Ministry of Education of Brazil wanted to send teachers to the Southeast Asian country to teach Portuguese. Among thousands of candidates, Márcia was chosen to lead the Brazilian team of 13 teachers to East Timor.

Márcia really connected with the East Timorese, made friends and sought opportunities to serve beyond her duties. She even offered private tutoring to a group of handicapped people with no access to schooling. The Ministry of Education was very pleased with Márcia’s work and her ability to identify with the people. As a result, Márcia has been asked to be the Coordinator of the new phase of this project if it continues or to coordinate other Ministry of Education projects. She credits her cross-cultural mission training at EMC for her relationship-building skills in East Timor.
