GWC graduates serve in 17 countries around the world

George Whitefield CollegeGeorge Whitefield College (GWC) was founded in 1989 in Cape Town, South Africa, to train people for evangelical mission and pastoral ministry. Today, the interdenominational college has 320 graduates in ministry in 17 countries around the world.

GWC trains leaders to face such challenges as the HIV/AIDS epidemic and growing poverty levels in South Africa. The college believes Christian leadership is the greatest need to effectively help the Church address these issues.

Students gain exposure to preaching, Sunday school teaching, youth ministry and Bible studies as they work weekly in local churches and parachurch ministries. Practical courses also prepare students for church planting and community-based projects, while the annual “Ministry Week” furthers student experience as students travel throughout southern Africa’s churches.

George Whitefield CollegeGWC also holds regular seminars for local ministers and provides electronic access to materials through the “Bible Teachers’ Network.” In addition, GWC birthed and supports a community church reaching the immediate context and surroundings.

Numerous churches employ graduates, while at least four theological colleges in Africa have a GWC graduate as Principal. Graduate and church rector Edwin Ngubane preaches two services a week and leads four Bible studies along with the youth group as the only minister at his church. He says, “The training I received at GWC has proved to be very helpful and relevant. It has enabled me to prepare sermons and bible studies and to lead the congregation effectively.”
