“His scholarship opened doors to a pretty remarkable transformation”
Before becoming OC President and CEO, David Baer served as the Rector of OC partner school Evangelical Seminary for Pastoral Education (ESEPA), Costa Rica, from 1988-2004. While there, he mentored his teaching assistant, Alex Cabezas. Alex was an OC scholarship recipient and graduated from ESEPA, saying, “I was able to graduate due to the full OC scholarship.” David says, “His scholarship opened doors to a pretty remarkable transformation while he was a student at ESEPA. Now he’s working at a relatively high level in the Viva Network.”
Alex serves as the Regional Network Facilitator for the Viva Network, a group of ministries to children at risk. He and another colleague are leading the children’s ministry for Latin America and the world. “Thanks to OC and ESEPA, I have managed some significant achievements in my life,” says Alex. “I hold a significant region-wide position for Latin America within a worldwide organization, and I’m working in the area of research, training and publication in the Latin American region.” Alex is also thrilled about the forthcoming publication of his book, Praying with Eyes Wide Open.
Alex is an example of what an investment in OC scholarships can produce. He says, “I am grateful to God and to those who believed in me by providing the scholarship, even though they had never met me.”
