Indonesian graduate gives God the glory for her missionary work
Kencana, a graduate of Indonesian Bible Institute (IBI), became a Christian in 1985. She felt God’s call to serve among a large unreached Indonesian people group and entered the Bachelor of Theology program at IBI, where she worked in ministry with the group for two years. Kencana thanked God for her spiritual and academic training and for developing discipline and good character. She says it was a beautiful time because her personal life had been trained and prepared toward her further ministry.
In the late 90s, God called Kencana to be a missionary while she attended a Mission Training Course held by the Indonesian Mission Fellowship. She said she felt the call more than eight times through the verses Acts 1:8 and Matthew 28:19-20. She learned English for a year in Australia before entering the mission field in the Philippines to “reach the Bajao people through education as they are poor, uneducated and non-believers in God.” She served from 2000-2006 in several capacities: education and spiritual growth for children and adults; medical missions; door to door ministry and church planting. 106 children were educated, and five adults became Christians.
Today, Kencana is planning to return to the Philippines for a five year long-term ministry, making Bajao disciples and establishing a mission school and local church, as well as a two year short-term ministry to continue her work with Bajao children and adults. Of her mission, Kencana says, “To God be the glory.”
Acts 1:8 – But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
Matthew 28:19-20 – Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
