Indonesian graduate leaves medical program to share the Good News with the unreached
During his youth in North Sumatera, a province of Indonesia, Rully Hutaea was a member of the Batak people, a well-known Christian ethnic group in the country, and came to know the Lord as his personal Savior. He enrolled in the medical program at a South Sumatera university and became active in campus fellowship. However, while there, he began sensing the Lord’s calling to enter into full-time ministry, so he dropped out of the medical program and joined Youth with a Mission (YWAM) in Bandung, Indonesia. He went through YWAM’s discipleship program for two years and served the team as an English translator.
After the discipleship program, Rully felt he needed formal theological education. He entered the Tyrannus Bible Seminary (TBSI) in the spring of 2001 as a Mission major. He always had a burden for the unreached people groups of Indonesia, so he began to intercede for them in a small prayer group. An unexpected opportunity for service came when the tsunami hit Aceh, Indonesia, in December 2004. Rully was recruited as a team leader for a Christian NGO, and while helping tsunami victims, Rully was very well received and had opportunities to share the Good News.
After his return from Aceh, he became active in TBSI where he formed a fellowship to intercede for unreached people groups and encourage one another to serve these people in the future. He graduated in 2006 and was recruited by a local contextual ministry in West Java as their ministry coordinator. TBSI says, “He is highly valued and appreciated by the team for his vision, gifts and service.”
