New partner school proactive in the HIV/AIDS epidemic

A new training center to OC, Africa School of Missions (ASM) in South Africa offers an innovative program preparing men and women for service around the world. With 530 graduates, the interdenominational school provides training in pastoral, missions and medical skills in their School of Pastoral Studies and School of Health Clinic. ASM’s school for the children of missionaries can be adapted into a home schooling system, while the Bible translation program allows students to study in their “mother tongue.”

ASM is proactive in addressing the HIV/AIDS epidemic, one of the major challenges facing the Church in South Africa. Many students are involved in the school’s AIDS’ program where they learn skills in home-based care, community development, bereavement counseling and orphan support. In the past decade, the school has been highly involved in the local community through HIV/AIDS’ projects and has started projects in six other South African countries. Churches are also involved with ASM’s outreach programs in the local community, especially the HIV/AIDS programs.

ASM invites local churches to participate in short courses and seminars, and the school is in the developing stages of a Character Formation program to form the foundation of equipping students for ministry.

Scholarship student Rosemary Chauke writes, “All that I am learning will help me go into the mission field with the right attitude and for the right purpose…to serve the Lord. Academically, I am also equipped to go out into the mission field with biblically sound information. I am so thankful for your help.
