New Mozambique school is an extension of a leading OC partner
Located in the capital city of Mozambique, the Mozambique Graduate School of Theology (ISTEM) in Maputo is in its first year of operation. Mozambique is a Portuguese-speaking nation of 18 million that continues to recover from a destructive civil war that ended in the early 1990s. It is one of the poorest nations in the world.
ISTEM is functioning as an extension center of OC partner South American Theological Seminary (SATS) in Brazil, one of OC’s leading Latin American partners. With the entire program done in modules, the schools determine curriculum together, while SATS validates the program and issues diplomas. Currently, missionaries are managing the program in administrative roles. Eventually, ISTEM hopes to transfer the responsibility to local leadership.
ISTEM seeks to be missional, transformative and holistic in their approach and are committed to the training needs of laity and grass roots leaders. Curriculum is entirely focused on the needs of Mozambique, and students are already embarking upon several initiatives in urban missions.
A new program is being offered through the new cooperative leadership program co-sponsored by OC involving ISTEM, SATS and another Mozambique seminary. The team is working together to offer a three-year, holistic mission Master’s degree program for Africa’s church leaders, who can then expand the training to others in Africa. Click here to read more.
