Zimbabwe college trains many through its diverse options

Founded in 1979, the Theological College of Zimbabwe (TCZ) exists to develop Christian leaders who are committed to effective leadership and ministry in both the church and society. With over 200 graduates, the college offers Diploma and Bachelor degrees in Theology. The college is considering offering their programs on a part-time, evening basis for those who cannot attend full-time programs.

With a struggling economy like Zimbabwe’s, one course addressing contextual realities is the Relief and Development course that encourages pastors to teach both theology and requisite skills to those in their congregations who are in need of regular, sustainable income. Plans for future courses include conflict resolution and peacemaking. TCZ also offers a Women’s Ministry Certificate program, designed to equip the wives of students with ministry skills and biblical foundations in order to support their husbands in ministry.

TCZ has a satellite theological library in Bulawayo to give pastors access to theological materials without paying transportation costs to TCZ’s campus. The college also hosts an evening school with 10-week courses for faculty, staff, students and the public, in addition to their many public workshops and conferences.

TCZ’s future plans include opening a community-oriented center for evangelism, as well as a Pastors’ Resource Center in partnership with the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe in order to minister and provide resources to TCZ alumni who are pastoring in the area.

After graduating with his Bachelor in Theology degree, Phillip Matsatswa worked with his church’s evangelism/church planting ministry for three years. “I was really impressed, seeing how much knowledge I had acquired from TCZ that was in use.” Phillip is currently earning his Bachelor in Missiology Honors degree and says his courses will “equip me with the skills and knowledge useful for ministering cross-culturally...in a world where many religious faiths and worldviews [exist].”
