Partner school has served Southeast Asia for over half a century

Founded in 1957 as one of the earliest seminaries in the Philippines and Asia, Biblical Seminary of the Philippines (BSOP) is an interdenominational institution serving all the evangelical Chinese churches in the Philippines. Two of the Philippines’ greatest challenges include the urbanization of cities and the ever-present problem of poverty.

Due to the growth of Chinese-Filipino churches and being unable to rely on Christian workers coming from abroad, the need to train Chinese-Filipino men and women has increased tremendously. BSOP seeks to accept ethnic Chinese students from Thailand, Burma, Vietnam and Cambodia where a great need for leadership development and theological education exists. The seminary now has over 600 graduates serving the Church worldwide with more than 90% serving the Chinese-Filipino churches all over the Philippines. Many Chinese graduates returned to China and are in key leadership positions in churches and training centers. Eight alumni have started training centers as well.

BSOP is a member of OC partner Asia Graduate School of Theology (AGST), a consortium of eight evangelical seminaries in the Philippines that work together to offer advanced theological and ministry degrees. The seminary also offers extension courses to provide theological training for church leaders who cannot enter a seminary for full-time residential training.

“Many graduates expressed that they have learned more than just theological knowledge,” BSOP says. “The modeling life of faculty and support staff members exemplifies humility, sacrifice and diligence and reminds graduates that ministry is the ‘imparting’ of life through one’s own life.”
