Taiwan seminary tackles youth challenges
Founded in 1970, China Evangelical Seminary (CES) in Taiwan is a graduate institution offering a Doctor of Ministry degree, five Master’s degrees and one diploma degree. The seminary now has over 1400 graduates, the majority of whom are serving in churches, teaching in seminaries or serving as missionaries in various areas including Mainland China. Several alumni hold influential positions in their respective denominations, and many are involved in Gospel organizations at the grassroots level of leadership training.
Youth problems are one of the greatest challenges facing Taiwan society today, and many congregations’ youth ministries are in need of training and strengthening. CES has recently established the Center for Youth Ministry Research and Training which offers courses to youth workers and parents. As a seminary serving the global Chinese population, their Theological Education by Extension program also reaches over 2,000 lay persons around the country annually. In addition, CES has plans to build a new campus, and their CES Press publishes theological textbooks among many other titles for Christian leaders.
A great example of a graduate who is impacting society is Master of Divinity graduate Irene Chang who is serving in the Chinese Bible Church of Greater Boston with her husband. She has been involved in Chinese church history research and in editing “Christ Alone, a Pictorial Presentation of James Hudson Taylor’s Life and Legacy,” published by OMF Books, Hong Kong.
