Five thousand graduates have been trained at this Indonesian partner
Established in 1959, Indonesian Bible Institute (IBI) in Batu, East Java, Indonesia, is one of the largest and oldest evangelical seminaries in the country. A new OC partner, IBI has been an unofficial part of the OC network for several years and recently joined OC as one of its strongest Asian partners. Many of its 5,000 graduates serve as missionaries in all parts of the world, while others work for churches that represent more than 50 denominations in Indonesia.
IBI is committed to strengthening churches and considers one of their strengths to be training vocational Christian leaders for church ministries. Innovative programs include Bachelor’s degrees in Theological Studies and Mission Studies; Master’s degrees in Pastoral Counseling, Christian Counseling, Christian Education, Mission Studies, Divinity and Theology; and a Doctor of Theological Studies degree. To contribute to grass roots level training, IBI has conducted Evening Bible School in a number of cities with approximately 5,000 participants. IBI also offers short-term, one year Bible courses and “One Week with God” leadership training.
IBI’s vision is to become a center for theological research that enriches churches and society, while publishing the research findings of faculty and students into periodical theological journals and books. The institute also cooperates with many institutions, churches and organizations to provide leadership training through seminars and workshops.
Bachelor of Theology graduate Kencana Wati entered the mission field in the Philippines to serve the Bajao people through education, spiritual growth, medical missions, door to door ministry and church planting. She plans to return to the Philippines for a five year long-term ministry, making Bajao disciples and establishing a mission school and local church, as well as a two year short-term ministry to continue her work with Bajao children and adults.
