Chinese partner has worked with local churches for over 20 years
Founded in 1982, Macau Bible Institute (MBI) in Macau, China, “serves the Lord and His Church through the provision of theological and interdisciplinary education.” MBI is committed to developing godly servant leaders for full-time Christian ministry as pastors, missionaries and evangelists; providing continuing education for pastors and church workers; assisting churches in training laity; and providing strategic research and spiritual support for Macau churches and pastors.
With more than two decades of strong partnership with local Chinese churches, the interdenominational institute assumes a unique and strategic role in developing indigenous Christian workers through Bible-centered curriculum. The institute places a strong emphasis on community building and discipleship training through contextualized programs and holistic training.
Programs offered include the Diploma in Theology, Bachelor of Theology, Graduate Diploma in Christian Studies and a dual degree program featuring the BTh and the Master of Christian Studies. Evening and weekend courses and seminars are offered throughout the year to equip laity for more effective ministry in the Church and their vocations. The Certificate of Christian Teachers program is one of the newest programs introduced with the aim of helping Christians in the teaching profession to integrate faith and work and to win the younger generation for Christ.
The influence of casinos and the entertainment business is one of Macau’s societal challenges. Gambling is very popular, and MBI fears that materialism is damaging people’s spiritual appetite, including Christians. Young students quit school to work in the business, while small entrepreneurs also find it difficult to compete with casinos. Practical ministry is a top priority for the institute in this area and others, including evangelism, discipleship training, leading Bible studies and preaching.
