New OC partner offers training in Chinese, English and Malay
Founded in 1978, Malaysia Bible Seminary (MBS) in Klang, Malaysia, is a new OC partner and a quality seminary in Southeast Asia offering training in Chinese, English and Malay.
Before MBS was formed, the need for theological training was felt by the Malaysian Church leaders for years. In 1976, Pusat Latihan Kirstian Melaka (PLKM) was started, although it was originally intended to be the Malaysia Bible Seminary - English Department. In 1978, PLKM merged with the Malaysia Bible Seminary - Chinese Department. Recognizing that each language’s constituency was different, each department was autonomous in its educational philosophy and approach in order to serve their students better. In 1988, MBS relocated to Klang, just outside of metropolitan Kuala Lumpor.
Today, MBS is a critical seminary for both China and for training of the small but growing Malay Church. With growing linkages to Mainland China, MBS has a strong and growing Malay language program that is largely offered by extension in Sabah and Sarawak; nearly 500 students are involved.
MBS also has a strong relationship with Malaysia Baptist Theological Seminary in Penang. The two schools generally encourage students who are nearer to the other school to apply there instead.
